Do you enjoy outdoor working? Would it inspire you to know you’re helping people get home every night?
Our track maintenance operatives work in small, friendly, talented teams, making sure trains run safely efficiently. Because this job is so vital to the safety of the public, you’ll need experience of working within exacting safety guidelines, with a commitment to reliable, faultless work.
Salary: from £18,242 plus shift allowances
Our in-house maintenance team work together to safely maintain our signal, track, power and telecoms equipment across 20,000 miles of track in the UK. You’ll be spending most of your time outdoors, using automated and manual tools.
You’ll carry out general maintenance, which could include anything from lookout duties for your team to shovelling ballast. We’ll provide you with all the training and protective clothing you need.
You should be conscientious, reliable and hard working, making sure you only carry out work for which you’re trained and competent. The health and safety of our passengers, colleagues and partners depends on everyone’s individual contribution, so you must always work safely and in accordance with our procedures, method statements or other instructions.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring that vehicles, materials, tools and plant equipment under your control are fit for use and are used, stored and disposed of correctly.
This role involves shift working that will include days, nights and weekend work. It’s safety critical, which means no alcohol or drug consumption is permitted. There’ll be regular drug and alcohol testing and a pre-employment medical check. If you’re shortlisted for this position, there’ll also be a communications test.
